Matthew Moran -
DERI Research Engineer
I am a native of Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, Ireland and graduated with a B.E. honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1993. Between 1993 and 2003, I worked as a software engineer in both multi-national and start-up companies in Ireland, Germany and Australia. My professional experience lies in the design and development of database applications using different RDBM systems with C++, Visual Basic and Java. I have worked as senior engineer on a wide variety of software projects from embedded smart card systems to, more recently, Web-based digital asset and content management applications.
In October 2003, I joined DERI as a post-graduate researcher and currently am finishing my PhD thesis. My research interests lie in the area of Semantic Web Services and associated middleware. In particular, as co-architect of the Web Service Modelling Execution Environment (WSMX), I am investigating how WSMX can be applied to solve the critical problems of data and process integration of independent co-operating applications over the Web. WSMX, developed at NUIG and the University of Innsbruck, additionally forms the core architecture for a number of large ongoing EU IP research projects.
